Seven years ago we were married in a beautiful church and celebrated by a gathering of our close family and friends.
Here's a layout I did recently with one of our wedding photos. I used a piece of Prima printed cardboard as the base, which I cut into the scalloped shape and then distressed with a craft knife. Then I started layering on elements until I was happy with the layout. I cut a piece of vintage embroidery, cut a heart from old ledger paper, sprayed a chipboard heart with Glimmer Mist, and added vintage buttons and doilies among my cluster of flowers and embellishments. I saturated the coloring on the photo to give it a pop art effect. I got the title from the Cinderella song, and sing it in my head every time I look at this project. Here's the card I made for Husband for our anniversary. I used supplies from the Swirlydoos May kit, ribbon scraps from the Anthologies June kit (to be released June 1), and Webster's alphas. Saturday, May 22, 2010Anthologies June Kit Sneak PeeksThe new Anthologies kit will be available at midnight CT on June 1. Here are a couple peeks at the projects I created with this new kit. This kit was a lot of fun to play with and got me outside of my usual creative "box." The full reveal will take place on June 1. Hope to see you then!
Thursday, May 20, 2010Wednesday, May 19, 2010Still Time to Enter...
Today is the last day to enter my 200th Post Giveaway. Leave a comment on last Thursday's post (with all the details) if you'd like to enter.
I'm keeping the drawing open until midnight ET. I'll draw a name tomorrow morning and post the results! And a big thank you in advance to everyone who entered! This week has been so busy. I did more junk shopping last weekend, but I have so much work to do this week that I haven't been too creative. I did manage to meet some lovely blog friends. The super-talented, ultra-friendy, and so-so-sweet Lisa of Tarnished and Tattered was selling treasures at Cottage Panache. It was so much fun to finally meet Lisa. She's planning to teach classes at Cottage Panache, and I will be the first to sign up! The fabulously creative Pam of the Altered Muse was selling at the Buchanan Antique show in Dallas. When you meet Pam, you know you are talking to the embodiment of creativity. It was so wonderful to meet these two talented ladies who've I've been stalking in blogland for a while now. No restraining orders have been filed, so the feeling must be mutual :) I'll have a couple sneak peeks of the new Anthologies Connection kit later this week. Saturday, May 15, 2010I have the crossed the line...
...into the world of crazy collectors.
The other night, before my husband could get home from work, I took a quick trip to a local antique mall. I bought a few little things - a vintage Paris fashion magazine, an old embroidered tea towel, and a small tin full of old buttons. This tin of buttons was $8. I thought the tin itself was pretty cool, and saw some interesting buttons inside. So I bought it. Fast-forward 30 minutes when my husband gets home, we go out to eat, and finally another 2 hours later we get home. I go straight for my tin of buttons and dump it out on my craft table to examine what I have. OH MY GRAVY! I was so pleasantly surprised with my "haul" that I had to bring husband in to see them. While many of the button are just neat plastic buttons of various shapes, sizes, and colors, I have a decent sized pile of antique glass buttons, cut steel buttons, filigree metal buttons... Needless to say, I was in Button Heaven! Any one of these buttons is worth more than $8. I even told my husband that I need to label the tin "special buttons," so that when I'm long gone, someone doesn't toss them out or send them off to Goodwill. But, maybe then someone else will have the thrill of buying a bargain treasure like I did. Don't forget to enter my 200th Post Giveaway. Details are on Thursday's post. Thursday, May 13, 2010200th Post
Today is my 200th post! When I started blogging a little over a year ago, I didn't know if I could keep up with it or if anyone would even care to read my blog.
I am so happy that 200 posts later, I still have regular and new visitors to my blog. I have also met fabulous bloggers to share stories, projects, gifts, and inspiration with. In honor of my 200th post, I'm hosting a giveaway. Here is what you'll win: Vintage trims, photos, millinery flowers, jewelry bits and bobs, ephemera, buttons, fabrics, and two bottles of Stickles - because everything is better with a little sparkle! There are three ways to enter, each one will earn you an entry in the drawing (for a total of three entries!): 1. Leave a comment on this post. 2. Follow Zunky Chic on Facebook. 3. Put a link to this post on your blog (you can also add the above image). You'll need to post a comment here with a link to your blog post. You have until next Wednesday, May 19 to enter. I'll draw a name from all the entries and post the winner here the next day. Good luck! Tuesday, May 11, 2010Birthday PocketsYesterday I shared the cover of my birthday calendar book. Here's a look at the inside pages. For each page, I made a pocket that holds a tag with each person's birthday written on it for that month. I made some of the tags from lace and fabric scraps, like this one for February. The tag is a journaling card from 7 Gypsies. I used a vintage Bingo card for the base of these pages. March's page is built on more Prima packaging - this one from a rhinestone flourish. Throughout the book, I used supplies from Crafty Secrets, Jenni Bowlin, Prima, Webster's Pages, and vintage supplies from my stash. I wanted each page to have it's own little "theme", but have all the pages blend together. So I didn't use holiday themes. This is a birthday book, after all. I used some purchased tags (that had been sitting in my stash for a while) and library pockets on some of the pages. To embellish the purchased tag and pocket for June, I added a paper doily that I sprayed with Glimmer Mist and edged with Stickles. I also swapped out the tag's dark blue ribbon for some seam binding that I sprayed with gold Glimmer Mist. July's page is my favorite - and not just because my birthday is in July. I used a piece of Prima paper for the background, made a banner with Jenni Bowlin stickers, and used a Recollections tag with that fabulous fairy on it. I added some Stickles to her wings and tied on that lovely blue and gold ribbon. The pocket is made from a scrap of lace embellished with a sewing pattern tissue ruffle and some cuts from Crafty Secrets. August has a fun-in-the-sun summer theme. I added sparkly K&Co butterflies and seashells and beads to embellish the pocket made from a scrap of eyelet fabric. My dad's and my husband's birthdays are both in September, so I kept this page as "masculine" as possible. That meant keeping it simple with a green and yellow color palette. Even though I didn't want a holiday theme for the tags, I maintained the "tradition" with some black touches for the October page. For November, I wanted a homey vintage feel. And December also keeps it simple with a holiday-themed sticker in non-traditional colors, so it matched my book perfectly. And finally, the back cover is made from another piece of Prima packaging. This time, from a large package of Say It In Crystals. I embellished it with some scraps to tone down the black. Monday, May 10, 2010Remembering Birthdays
Today is my friend Jane's birthday. I would have forgotten if she didn't mention it. We're getting together today for lunch so I made her a little card using more of that Basic Grey Sultry collection.
And to make sure that I don't forget someone's birthday again, I made a birthday "calendar" book. I recycled a lot of supplies for the pages. Here is the cover: I used packaging from Prima flowers for the cover. It's a nice thick piece of transparency with beautiful words printed all over it. I added a scrap of Prima paper on the underside. The cover is decorated with an embellished cupcake from Crafty Secrets, Webster's Pages journaling card, Prima flowers, large sparkly button, trims, and a vintage flashcard from Pretty Little Studio (etsy). I tied some random ribbon scraps to the binder rings. Here is a peek at the inside pages: I'll share those tomorrow.
Saturday, May 8, 2010Thank You Cards
Do you send thank you cards? It's becoming one of those things that people don't do anymore. My mother taught me to send thank you cards when someone gives you a gift for a special occasion - like graduation, your wedding, baby shower, etc. But I don't think that's even enough. What about your neighbor who picked up your mail for a week while you were on vacation? Or your friend who watched your kids all day so you could have some quiet time for yourself?
A little thank you goes a long way. And that just happens to be the theme of the opening round of Paper Crafts' Gallery Idol 2010! Have you entered? Get over there and check out the rules and submit your entries. But first, check out a couple of new cards that I'm submitting. This first card uses some scraps of papers from Prima, Making Memories, DCWV, Jenni Bowlin, and 7 Gypsies. The alphas are Webster's Pages and My Little Shoebox. I stamped all over the main background paper with Distress Ink and a swirly stamp from Little Yellow Bicycle. I added UTEE and Diamond Stickles to the butterfly and then stitched a few circles around it to make it stand out even more. This next card uses papers and alphas from Basic Grey. I've had this "Sultry" paper collection for a while and haven't done anything with it. So, I grabbed a few sheets and just started cutting. I added a "pile" of Prima flowers and various rhinestone centers to the bottom of the card. Get busy creating and get your submissions in before the May 24 deadline!
Friday, May 7, 2010Happy Mother's Day
In case you've forgotten, Mother's Day is this Sunday. I made this card for my mom and sent it off the other day.
I used Webster's Pages' "Imagine Your Life" paper for the background. This paper is so beautifully designed, it needs very little to turn it from a piece of paper into a work of art. I sprayed a Technique Tuesday chipboard heart with Sea Glass Glimmer Mist and layered it over a vintage crochet doily. I tied on a scrap of ribbon and added a vintage brass "Mother" charm that I bought on etsy. Tuesday, May 4, 2010Blossom and Grow
See - I told you I started cutting Webster's paper.
I made this hanging using half a sheet of Life's Portrait "Light the Way" and half a sheet of "Imagine Your Life." The chipboard shape came in my Anthologies' April kit. I first covered it with the "Light Your Way" paper. Then I fussy cut the bird and flowers from the "Imagine Your Life" paper and adhered it using pop-dots for added dimention. I added Stickles here and there for added sparkle. I cut out a Hambly transparency frame to highlight the birdcage on the paper. I added a gorgeous Prima Tres Jolie flower cluster, Say it in Pearls flourish, and butterfly, and Webster's alphas for the title. A Prima butterfly pebble and a few rhinestones finish off the piece. I tied a long piece of vintage pink seam binding for the hanger and topped it off with a sewing tissue ruffle. Monday, May 3, 2010Etsy Shop Update
I've added a few items to my etsy shop, including these wonderful vintage BINGO cards and some more lace and trims. I'll have more to add in the coming days as soon as I can get some time to take photos. I have more trim than I know what to do with right now!
P.S. My BINGO cards are about the cheapest on etsy right now, so grab them up while they last!
