This Week's Treasures

I went to a few shops this week and came home with a few treasures to add to my ever-growing collection.

Vintage wrapping paper, Christmas corsage, buttons, tiny book (Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde - for Halloween!), fabric, old jewelry bits, and lace. I'll use the orchid on my Hawaii mini book that I'm working on right now.

Old baby dress (bought it just for the hanger, which I need for another project), box of tart tins, old Christmas tinsel garland, and book. Can you read the title - Stories of Thrift for Young Americans. I picked it up at a local thrift store I had never been to before. I thought it was fate!

Can you tell that I've enjoyed playing with Picasa's new photo editing tools? I'm really liking the vignette tool for my junk photos; not sure about the soften tool yet.

Treasure Hunting

... or "more junk" as my husband calls it. We ended up in Dallas last week and I didn't want to waste the trip. I found a couple of estate sales to shop while we were in the area. Here are some of my treasures.

Old advertising envelopes (available in my etsy shop), sparkly Christmas picks, doilies, and old travel postcards.

An old cigar box full of thread.

I didn't find the book, but this cover came home with me. It will be great for a Christmas altered hanging. There were several rolls of the vintage Halloween crepe paper, so I bought a couple.

A pile of old pillowcases. The eyelet fabric is actually an old dress, tattered and torn from years of use and storage.

My favorite find was this HUGE old ledger from 1903.

It has 161 of the 1,000 pages used. They aren't "filled" but they contain unique entries like "will pay when Mr. Williams pays him for the tomatoes"!

The entries include the person's name and their occupation, like blacksmith, dress maker, laborer.

I will have blank and "with writing" pages listed on etsy.

Looks Like Christmas

The Halloween decorations are all packed up (sitting on the kitchen counter) and I'm making Christmas ornaments, tags, and decor. Here is a little hanging I made to kick off the season. I started with a 5x5 canvas and covered it with vintage sheet music. I printed the lovely image and started layering it with various trims and embellishments. Many of the items were received from swaps I've participated in over the last few months.

I topped it off with a sheet music fan and antique mercury glass button. I wrapped the edge with velvet ribbon and tied on an antique lace hanger.
