Designer of the Month!

I finally have my new craft room finished, but now I need to get all of my supplies out of storage and loaded into the new space. I'm hoping to be ready for Christmas crafting soon!

This month, I was selected as the Cards magazine Designer of the Month! I was so surprised and honored to be chosen. Here are a couple of images from the magazine.

Cards magazine is no longer available in a print version, as Northridge has changed all of their publications to digital only. You can order digital editions of all of their magazines on the Northridge Publishing website. I'd love to have a stack of this issue sitting in my craft room! :)

Grandmom

It has been way too long since my last post! We finally found a house to move into and closed on both the old and the new in mid-July. We picked the hottest weekend to move, but we are now in the new house. We've already started the remodeling and redecorating. New wood floors are down throughout much of the first floor. Now the painting can begin. We are covering up some very dark (and unusual) color combinations, but so far so good. They make a primer for everything and we are taking advantage of that!

The first room that will be complete is my new craft room. I can't wait to get in there and start creating again! I'll share some before and after photos once we're done.

In the meantime...

I had a couple of projects published in last month's Create Vintage issue. And was I surprised (and a bit disappointed) to find out that Northridge stopped printing actual magazines and has now switched to an all digital format. I will miss holding the magazines in my hand and poring over the beautiful projects inside.

Here is one of the projects that was published. I made a vintage style hanging that features a photo of my grandmother. I reused a background I had created for another project that I wasn't thrilled with. I layered scraps of paper from Prima, some old fabric, lace, millinery flowers, and some sweet tiny flowers from Maya Road.

Here's a closer look at some of the embellishments.

The photo was taken of her and my grandfather back in his sailor days. I'm assuming they were either in Philadelphia or New York at a nightclub. Can't you just picture the band playing, martinis swirling, and couples dancing...

Create Vintage Projects

I had a total of 10 projects published in the recent Create: Vintage magazine. Here are some of the cards.

It's a Beautiful Life uses beautiful papers from Bo Bunny, Crate Paper, Melissa Frances, and Webster's Pages to create a soft color palette. I added a Crate Paper chipboard flower that I embellished with pearls and paper leaves.

Just for You uses a kraft recipe card that I bought in the Michaels dollar bins. I added a vintage doily and image, punch scalloped circles from some scraps, and added a sentiment sticker from Cosmo Cricket.

Three Horn Salute is one of my favorites. I love this pink polka paper from My Mind's Eye. I used the colors in the vintage postcard to set the palette. A cluster of embellishments finishes this card.

Published Cards

I'm sharing a couple of the cards that I had published in January issues.

"Surprise!" was published in the January Cards magazine.

In the January Simply Handmade: Paper Crafting issue, I had two projects published - my Fairy Banner and this card that was shown in their crepe paper feature:

I love the muted colors of this card, and think I'll make some more for wedding cards. I should have gotten on the ball and made some for Valentine's Day. Oh well - there's always next year.

I had a total of 10! projects that were published in the Create: Vintage issue. I'll share those later this week.

Lessons

This past Saturday, I taught my first class at The Crafty Scrapper. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to teaching again. Just have to come up with my next project.

I have a few projects in progress, so nothing new to share until I manage to get something finished! However, I can share a card that was recently published in the Create Vintage magazine. This card uses a combination of patterned papers and a beautiful image from Crafty Secrets.

I also used some Glimmer Mist to dye the seam binding bow, and added a stitched border around each layer of paper.

It's Official

I am now a crafting teacher! I will be teaching my Fairy Tea Party altered shadowbox at the Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, TX on February 18 at 10:30 AM.

This project was recently published in the Create Vintage issue, available now.

I created a new version for the class sample, so here's a peak at what you'll create.

Details are available on the Crafty Scrapper's site. I hope to see you there!

Back to School

I just received my September issue of Cards magazine. There's a card on page 108 that I'm quite fond of :)

This card was inspired by my friend Julie's love of vintage pattern girls.

Thanks Sew Much

My "Thanks Sew Much" card was published in the April Cards magazine. This is my first "real" magazine publication, and I was so excited. I used patterned paper scraps for the layered background. I stitched each layer and then added a Crafty Secrets tag. The dress form and thread tag are Crafty Secrets stamps that I stamped onto patterned paper and then cut out.

I wrapped pink thread around the thread tag and added a sewing needle. After adhering my stamped images to the card, I added a label sticker and then made a title with alpha stickers and my old typewriter.

Published!

Do you have a copy of the April CARDS magazine? There's a card featured on page 60 that I'm awfully fond of :)

They did change a part of my instructions (I don't know why), and it's actually incorrect. So, if it doesn't make complete sense, that's why.
