Visiting DC

While we were visiting our family for Easter, we took a day trip down to the Manassas Battlefield in VA and to Washington, DC. Here are just a few of my favorite pics of the day.

On the battlefield:

Eventhough we just missed the cherry blossoms, the city was still blooming.

I especially enjoyed the First Ladies exhibit in the Smithsonian's American History Museum.

This dress was worn by First Lady Helen Taft to her husband's inauguration.

And this dress was worn by First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. Who knew she had such a tiny waist!

Julia Child's kitchen:

THE ruby slippers:

We visited the Jefferson Memorial, but I didn't manage to get any good photos of it. Here is the view of the Washington Monument from the Jefferson.

The Capitol Building from the mall:

We're hoping to go back for a weekend sometime soon to search the Archives for ancestry information. We did manage to get into the Rotunda to see the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
