My Date with Tim Holtz

Okay, so it was really a class with Tim Holtz, but I had a great time. Tim taught a "Curio of Creativity" mixed media class at Ten Seconds Studios yesterday. Here's what I created:

We ahered a lot of Tim's metal embellishments, vintage papers, lots of ink, and other little trinkets to little canvases that were then adhered to the background. We adhered strips of metal that we embossed around the sides of the frame. This was the first time that I've embossed metal. It came out pretty cool, but the interior of my curio looks better than the sides I created.

Tim was a great instructor, and very personable. I would definitely take another class with him and recommend that you do too when he's in your area. Here's my favorite photo of the day: me with Tim! He's the most photogenic man I've ever seen.

Birthday Cards

Our siblings conspired to have all their babies in a 30-day span in June and July. It seems that I continually have baby presents and cards to make! But they're all so cute, I don't mind.

Here are the birthday cards that I made this year. The girls' cards are a very feminine, but not necessarily "baby-ish." I wanted to do something that would be different than their other cards.

Lily's birthday comes first. She's my sister's headstrong, adorable 2-year-old.

The background paper is K&Co Madelaine. I love this collection. It's so pink, flirty, French, and feminine. I used my Martha Stewart doily punch on the edge. I added a paper strip that I randomly folded and adhered in a circle to a chipboard base. The I layered on a couple of vintage images, pink rhinestones, a keyhole embellishment, glitter, and some fabulous lace and ribbon.

Next is Angela's birthday, who turned 1 this week.

I used more of the K&Co Madelain paper and that same MS punch. I stamped "happy birthday" in pink on a large Heidi Swapp flower, then went over the dried ink with my glitter pen. It really added a nice, but subtle, touch. I added a Fancy Pants crocheted flower and star stick pin, and a Bazzill large pink bard in the middle. The finishing touch is the pearl swirl. It just looks so cute and dainty!

The boy (Jason) will celebrate his 2nd birthday in July.

I used Basic Grey Cupcake paper for the background, then cut the vellum circle and cupcake using my Cricut Expression. I added orange and yellow Stickles to the candle flames, and rows of rhinestones to the cupcake's "paper."

Happy Birthday Little Ones!

Happy Fathers' Day

Here is the Father's Day card that I made for my dad. I used Making Memories Chloe's Closet papers, Making Memories mini letters stickers, a chipboard frame, some twine, and a twig from my yard.

True Love

I made this card for my husband for our anniversary - we celebrated 6 years last month during our trip to Hawaii.

I used a journaling card from Creative Imaginations, then layered on the vintage photo, hand-written text, and a Hambly transparency. The "6" on the clock face is also from Creative Imaginations.

At the bottom, I added some pretty ribbon, which I quickly stitched to hold the folds in place, then layered on a dictionary-text punched flower, turquoise paper flower, and sequin.

Happy Birthday, Lily

This weekend is my niece Lily's 2nd birthday. She's growing up so fast, and getting into more trouble than ever!

Here are pics from a birthday album I did for her 1st birthday. I made one for me, one for my sister, and one for my mom. It's made with white paper bags bound with binder rings. I went through all my paper and ribbon scraps and pulled out anything that was pink and green. I tucked little tags that I made, her party invitation, and more photos into the open ends of the bags.

I layered a vellum cover with the title over the first bag that had her photo, a large "1" sticker, and a tag with the date of the occasion. I created her name on the cover using a variety of letter rub-ons.

I had a lot of photos of her smooshing and eating her cake, and I wanted to include several. I created a couple of pages using these photos, then added more to tags that I tucked into the paper bag sleeves.

This one is my favorite - look at that impish grin as she smashes the cake in her little fists!

I used vintage lace and ephemera in the book. Here is a vintage flash card that captured the moment perfectly!

This page is my favorite. I create a little "party girl" using a photo of her running through the house in her "post-party" outfit. I cut wings from patterned paper to layer behind the photo. The hat and balloon are stickers that I put onto cardstock and cut out.

Happy Birthday Lily! Don't throw sand at people!
